Who Will Our Next President Be?: Meditate on It

Christian and Eastern teaching both share the wisdom of the importance of our thoughts.

Buddha says, “What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind.”

When faced with the turmoil and confusion of today’s world, it is clear that now is the time to take action and dream another dream so that we may build a better tomorrow.

Read on to be guided on a journey where you will imagine a leader who makes you feel secure, calm, safe, and blessed.

Take a Break from Negative Thoughts

Let’s take a few minutes to break from the fear, the confusion, COVID-19,  dueling political parties, and give ourselves a few minutes to create a daydream that feels good for everyone. Let our minds dwell on that which is honorable.

When you were a child, did you ever create a whole world crafted from your imagination?  Let’s play that mental game again. The election is on everyone’s mind, so just let your imagination go wild.

If we want to be at peace, let us envision a president in our minds who brings us peace.  Let’s dream of a world where our president has:

  1. Integrity

Who in your life has admirable integrity? Is it your father or mother? Neighbor, friend?  Remember that person, the depth of their integrity, and for this moment,  imagine that incredible quality in our president and everyone who works with him or her at the White House.

How does that feel?  I feel confident, secure, trusting.

  1. Compassion

Who can you think of who has always demonstrated heartfelt compassion for others?  Perhaps one of your teachers?  Imagine that quality in our president.

How does it feel to know that that same compassion is guiding the leader of our country?  I feel peaceful and calm.  Take the time to experience the feelings of calmness.

  1. Academic Intelligence

Who is the smartest person you know?  Someone who is a “quick study” who has always been able to develop great solutions for the problems that arrive in life? Is it a teacher, a friend, yourself? Imagine that sharp awareness grounding our president.

How does that feel?  I feel safe, protected.

  1. Emotional intelligence

Who do you know who always understands the nuances of a conversation? Who is someone who can quickly discern integrity and honesty in another? That someone always knows the right thing to say, to comfort and advise you.  Imagine that wisdom in the White House.

How does that feel?  I feel blessed. Take the time to feel blessed.

  1. Love

Who do you know who loves freely?  Who loves their family, their community, the country, and the world? Who is it that makes your heart beam just by thinking of them?  Perhaps you will envision your spouse, your child, or your grandmother. Imagine that kind of love permeating the White House.  WOW.

How does that feel? I feel joy. I feel whole. I feel complete.

Play this imagination game as often as possible and whenever you feel a longing for peace, security, and joy.

Change Your Thoughts and Change the World

Let our minds dwell on these beautiful qualities and imagine a new world.

It seems that Apostle Paul knew that we would have times like this when he wrote these words to guide us:

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.”  Philippians 4:8
