My very good friend Kathi has asked me to share a poem I wrote last month while at sea about this beautiful planet we all live on and my love dancing with it in the form of sailing. I decided to write about Gaia (aka Mother Earth) and a sailors siren lure to her for many generations past. I hope you enjoy it!
The Sailor
I know that Gaia loves me
She invites me out to dance
And stirs the breeze as moves the waves
And tempts me with romance
She invites me to raise the canvas
That’s on my floating home
And to dance the day and night away
In all the spray and foam
When daylight comes
We take a break and watch her brother Sol awake
Then back to dancing and romancing
And away my heart she’ll take
If I were not a sailor
Sailing upon the sea
How would I know this deep love
That I feel for thee
There’s times your anger rises
Mankind has done you wrong
But know in your heart I love you Gaia
And will dance to your sweet song
Not once, nor twice, nor thrice
But on and on and on!
